Despite my tough image, despite the way I swear like a sailor and love gruesome movies and read everything Garth Ennis ever wrote, I secretly love baby animals.

And no one does baby animals like the Japanese. It’s like they have a fucking Cutetics Lab buried in a hill on one of those tiny islands off the coast of Honshu. And this is one of their hideously cute products!

The only things that seems weird is that Mama Sue sounds like a yakuza boss. Ah well, I wouldn’t mind having a Yakuza boss for a mom. Boss of the Cutekuza.

I’m not going to lie - this clip kinda makes me lose my appetite. I’m not sure why. There’s something Lovecraftian going on here that humans are not fully equipped to understand. That said, he’s kind of cute, ain’t he?

What can I say? I like ninjas. I like cats. I have nightmares about waking up to see this cat stalking me in my bed.

I don’t think it requires a highly-paid media analyst to predict that the anime production companies who will still be around in 20 years are those which take advantage of what the internet does best, namely allow people to share information. Naturally, when one says ’share information’ it really means piracy.

An increasing number of media outlets are coming to grips with the fact that handing out freebies isn’t such a bad thing, and in most cases is nothing more than free publicity. See, for instance, the Haruhi Suzumiya craze which has run rampant across YouTube for the last few years. If a cadre of Filipino prisoners can’t bring attention to your brand, I don’t know what can - and Haruhi Suzumiya studio Kadokawa seems to agree.

Last May, when Kadokawa Holdings released The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya on DVD in the U.S., fans of Japanese animation swarmed shops in Los Angeles and other cities. For months, Kadokawa, a Tokyo publisher and TV and movie distributor, had dropped hints about the anime’s imminent overseas release on a Web site. But other than that, it did almost no advertising. It didn’t have to. The company merely tapped into the huge following Haruhi Suzumiya already had on YouTube and other video-sharing Web sites.

It sounds like the classic viral-marketing success story. But Kadokawa arrived at this strategy more by luck than by design. And lawyers would have been appalled by what they saw: the company allowing rampant Internet piracy to go unchecked.

That’s not how Kadokawa sees it, though. Chairman and CEO Tsuguhiko Kadokawa thinks his company has nothing to lose by reaching out to anime diehards. As he sees it, the company’s traditional publishing business has no future in the digital era. And suing YouTube for copyright infringement, as MTV Networks owner Viacom did last year, would have only angered anime fans who have been using the site.

…yeah, as if. My buddy Chris (Thanks, Chris! I’ll call you soon, swear…) sent me this last night, and it was good for a laugh. Even with the detestable faux-Japanese accent.

Afroninja: Destiny ? I’m so there. The fellow behind the infamous YouTube clip (seen below) was recently interviewed by WIRED…seems he’s spun his 15-minutes of internet fame into a full-length film. Craptacular, perhaps - but he did convince legendary blaxploitation film legend Jim Kelly to appear. So it can’t be all bad.

Right?

My fascination with all things Olivia Munn continues unabated. I’m not exactly sure what this whole Overnight Vlog thing she’s got going on is, but the YouTube clips she’s been posting with cohort Asher Levin are pretty funny. Oh, and this one has Karen the IT-Stripper…bonus!

I’ll be frank - the only reason I maintain my subscription to G4 is to plop my rear on the couch after dinner every night and watch ‘Attack of the Show‘ co-host Olivia Munn do whatever it is she does every night. Mind you, that’s only to cleanse my palate between reading Sir. Edward Gibbons’ ‘The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire‘ and watching lots of existential, French New Wave cinema. Now that I’ve gotten that shameful confession out of the way, here are a bevy of clips of the talented Ms. Munn in action. Maybe perhaps NSFW…
