Ken is a hunk!Yes, reality television has all the intellectual value of competitive nose-picking, but fans of the pro-gaming scene might be interested in checking out tonight’s debut of Survivor: Gabon, featuring 22-year old Super Smash Brothers champ Ken Hoang. And lots of hot chicks, if that’s your thang…

Personally, I’m still chuffed that Malay contestant Yau-man Chan didn’t make the cut a couple years back. He was the muthafuckin’ man

Survivor: Gabon premieres tonight at 8pm.

New ‘Street Fighter’ to bow on DVD

Is there any videogame property which has been adapted more than Street Fighter? I mean, besides Pokemon? I doubt it. Previous attempts to bring Capcom’s premiere fighting franchise to the small screen were tepid at best, and the 90’s feature film, featuring JCVD as Guile - and an equally mis-cast (though easy on the eyes) Kylie Minogue as Cammy - is best left unmentioned.

What with the shiny new Street Fighter 3 on the way, however, the road has once again been paved to all sorts of SF tie-ins, including a brand-new ‘animated comic’ DVD courtesy of Eagle One Media. I have no idea how this will turn out, but according to CBR the first volume Street Fighter: Round One - FIGHT! won’t be out until February, 2009. If anyone caught the recent Watchmen animated comic on iTunes, that was actually pretty cool, so who knows…then again, that was given away for free. I’m guessing Street Fighter: Round One - FIGHT! will be at least $19.95 more than free.

…and god help me, I can’t help but to post another YouTube clip. Enjoy…

Dragon Age: Origins 20-min gameplay video from Gen Con Indy 2008

I tried to post this via YouTube, but they claimed there was some sort of ‘Terms of Use Violation’, never mind that the other two I posted are seemingly okay. Plus, it was a public event and there were no Non Disclosure Agreements being passed around, so screw it. Enjoy! This was ripped straight from my DVD Handicam so the quality is a bit better than the other two videos (which were taken with my digital camera).

If you missed the other parts of the demo video, you can find them here - the other two parts bookend the video here, so if you want to know what’s behind that door, here you go…

UPDATE: Here’s a version hosted at 1UP…I did the math on the filesize and realized a mere 1000 downloads would kill our month’s bandwidth.

Gen Con 2008 roundup

I’m knee-deep in uploading media to Flickr and YouTube from this week’s Gathering ‘o Geeks, Gen Con Indy, and thought I’d sum up the high points of the convention. Before I get started, though, I should mention that most of the (presentable) photos I took this weekend are now available for your perusal at our Flickr stream. I can’t guarantee satisfaction, even of the vicarious sort, but there should be something in there for everyone (except, perhaps, David Hasselhoff fans). Enjoy.

That said, here’s what I did on my summer vacation:

Capcom enlists Solid Snake to pen ‘Lost Planet’ script

Not Solid Snake the character, of course, but the man who lent his vocal chords to the notorious badass, David Hayter. Hayter has a sideline as a screenwriter, having recently authored the script for Zack Snyder’s Watchmen adaptation. I figure if he can tackle that, he can certainly dress-up Capcom’s thinly-plotted arctic space-adventure.

I suspect that Lost Planet will make a better movie than it did a game. In true Capcom fashion, Lost Planet punishes you merely for playing it, with it’s constant heat-loss and subsequent character death. Granted, it’s not all that hard to stay warm as long as you’re killing stuff - but shouldn’t killing stuff be a reward in and of itself? Dead Rising suffered from the same problem, forcing you to hit numerous timed rendevous, some of which are necessary to complete the game.

I hope the movie doesn’t require the audience to hit the snack bar every 20 minutes to keep watching.

Beer Pong for the Wii!

I’m not sure what Beer Pong is (I’m a non-drinker myself, but not for any moral reasons- I dislike the taste of alcohol) but here is a summary of the article: new Wii game may promote drinking. Parents outraged. Yada-yada.

Here’s an idea: if you don’t want your kiddies to play the game, don’t buy it for them. Or forbid them from buying it.

Mario Kart is way more fun anyway! But oh, it teaches reckless driving…oh shit, and we have Mortal Kombat, which promotes murder and mutilation! Lock up the kids!

Wait, I don’t have kids, just a cat. Never mind.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom in action

I know everybody’s all pumped-up for the impending release of Capcom’s Street Fighter IV, but the brawler I’d most love to play is Capcom’s other project, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Of course, as cool as it is, the general consensus is that TvC will never appear outside of Japan. Which makes Baby Jesus cry.

I hope Shinji Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion is tucked away in there somewhere. I’ve been wanting to beat his whiny ass to a pulp for about ten years now.
