A little less than two weeks ago we launched the new Yellow Menace Podcast. Episode 2 is in the can and will go online June 21st, as scheduled. For those interested in what things look like in the short run, here’s a quick rundown:
- Episode 2 (6/21): Interview with Zebediah DeSoto, writer and director of the upcoming computer animated Night of the Living Dead: Origins
- Episode 3 (7/5): Mortal Kombat, Dragon Age anime, Sushi Poppers, Scanlation crackdown. Film Discussion: Johnnie To’s Exiled.
- Episode 4 (7/19): Some news (haven’t recorded yet, but we’ll know soon). Film Discussion: American Ninja.
As you can see we’re rolling along quite well. If anyone has any feedback to share about the podcast, feel free to send it to musashi (at) yellow-menace.com, or post it in the comments section. I should also note that we are now available on iTunes…click on the graphic in the right margin of the site to access the feed (and feedback is always welcome on our iTunes page as well).

For some reason, when you type in ‘happy new year’ in Google and hit the image search button, you get this picture of some ladies in thongs, showing off their backsides that appear to have red hand prints on them. I wasn’t curious enough to click on the picture and see what the hand prints actually are, though.
Anyway, here are my New Year’s resolutions:
1. Stop watching judge shows when the baby is napping. I have better things to do than watch these mutants scream at each other while the judge is secretly counting her six-figure salary behind the podium. My last judge show ever is today at 1:30, Judge Alex.
2. Work some of this baby fat off my ass. Wait, that’s my resolution every year, you say? Well, this year it’s different. Before it was just Edy’s Girl Scout Cookie ice cream fat, this year it’s baby fat. And ice cream fat.
3. Post two reviews on Yellow Menace every month. I can do this, I know it. The first will be Baccano!, because I already have it written up and have just been too lazy to type it.
4. Use that bulb thing instead of my fingers to get snot out of Gohan’s nose. The bulb thing is such a pain in the ass to use though…
I hope everyone had a decent 2009 and a great 2010! See you next year!

So, you all remember what I said about being gone for a few days? Yeah. Friday morning, I went to a routine midwife appointment, was sent to the hospital for tests, then was admitted to the hospital on Friday afternoon. Today, Tuesday, I finally left the hospital with a c-section incision and a baby son.
Yeah, I got to experience all three stages of labor AND an emergency c-section. That was AWESOME. And to Dan the epidural guy, you are probably the most beloved of all men in the Labor and Delivery Unit. I’m a fan.
I’ll get back to posting as soon as I can figure out how to hold a nursing baby in one hand and type with the other.

So, if you’ve been paying attention (and I don’t know why you would be…actually, if you were, that’s kind of creepy and stalker-ish), I am one week out from my due date (and Gohan seems to be making his way toward the exit…very, very slowly). So if I disappear for several days, more than likely I am giving birth. I am not currently giving birth or anything, but it is a definite possibility in the coming days.
Before that, I want to get up at least a couple reviews and after that, I will do my best to pop in from time to time until he starts sleeping through the night.

I just installed the IntenseDebate comment system on the site, and am still in the process of tweaking all the features. Some things might look sketchy in the short term (like the comment notifier at the top-right of each post)… so please bear with us as I work out the kinks in the system.
IntenseDebate offers a lot of cool functionality, like simultaneous Twitter posting and other stuff. If you want to check out all the features, visit the official IntenseDebate site.

If you look up top, you’ll see that I finally got around to installing a new Forum system. Several readers have bugged me about setting up discussion forums, so I finally got off my lazy arse and did it. There are a few nagging tidbits I intend to clean up – right now, the system requires a separate user account for Yellow Menace and the Forums, so you’ll have to register separately. Also, I need to create a link from the forums back to the main site. Neither of these should be challenging and I’ll tackle them as soon as I find time.
In any case, click here to check out the new Yellow Menace forums.

I flew back in from L.A. last night and am now enjoying gray skies and cold temperatures after laboring for a week under warm, sunny days. Double-blah. To add to the misery, my partially sentient stepmother (hereafter to be referred to as The Stepmonster) managed to lose my luggage at the LAX security checkpoint and then spent the rest of the return trip wondering why I was so pissed at her. It would probably be little consolation to her that I’m just as annoyed with myself for entrusting it to her in the first place. Cinderella doesn’t have a monopoly on shit stepmothers, let me tell you.
Thankfully I was smart enough not to give her my laptop to watch, so that’s safe and secure – but I did lose a half-dozen swag-ariffic tee shirts obtained at conventions over the last few years and nearly all my decent pants (not to mention one week’s worth of underwear and socks). Oh, and all the gifts and goodies I grabbed in L.A. So yeah, I’m a little annoyed with The Stepmonster.
As Rorshach would say, ‘Hrm.’
So anyway, I’m back in picturesque Cincinnati and ready to blog my ass off. I probably won’t actually be back on the ball until tonight or tomorrow, but when I am I’ll be sure to share some details of my trip as well as a couple of reviews and maybe an article or two.
Oh, and mad props again to AnaKhouri for running the benevolent dictatorship while I was out.

Okay, as mentioned I’ll be out of town for a week visiting my family in L.A. starting tomorrow. I should have lots of stuff to report when I get back, as there’s a badass Japanese fish market not far from my grandmother’s place and I’ll probably swing by Chinatown as well. At any rate, I don’t know how good my internet access will be out there so I’m going to have to play it by ear, in terms of posting to the site. AnaKhouri will probably be in and out a bit, and I’ll try my damndest to get stuff posted while I’m out, so hopefully the lights won’t be totally out.
In any case, I’ll be back full-time on January 13th. Keep it real, peeps.

Just a quick note to acknowledge that – yes – I am a few days behind on posting the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Episode Guide. Like many of you, the holidays are wreaking havoc on my schedule so while I’m trying to get everything online as quick as I can, there will be some delays, at least until after the holidays. Plus I’m going to visit my family on the coast in January, so I’ll be out of the office – so to speak – from early to mid-January.
Sorry for the inconvenience…

Had a little spare time on my hands tonight so instead of writing up a review of Pumpkin Scissors (it’s coming, I swear!) I set up something cool – a Yellow Menace news widget, which you can use to embed our news feed directly into your blog. Simply follow this link, customize, and get the embed code. Couldn’t be easier.

Okay – so I didn’t accomplish as much over the weekend as I’d hoped. Dealing with the website hack we received over the weekend consumed most of the time I had set aside to actually watch and review anything. That said, I did watch most of Pumpkin Scissors, and will have a review posted in due course.
AnaKhouri was, as usual, on the ball – with a handful of posts and a review of FUNimation’s Jyu-Oh-Sei.
In the Silver Lining corner, I have to say that I actually like the new look better than the old one – and it still looks a whole lot like the old template. So that kinda worked out.

Yes – the site looks different. Sometime this evening, the server which houses Yellow-Menace.com was hacked affecting ourselves and a number of other blogs. I won’t go into the dirty details – if you checked in with us anytime between 8pm and 3am EST, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
In fixing the site, certain functions of the old theme were hosed, so I defaulted back to this earlier version and – honestly – it ain’t so bad. I might try and fix the old one or move onto something else entirely, so for the time being what you see is what you get, folks…
UPDATE: I’m running through templates, trying to find something suitable – so things are going to look really wonky for the better part of the weekend. Sorry for the confusion, but I hope to have it all sorted by Monday.

Ack! I’ve been laid up with a cold the last couple of days, hence not-at-work. I think this was only supposed to be a minor cold, but I made the mistake of playing Dungeons and Dragons on Saturday night. All that talking (I’m the DM) pretty much killed my throat – and the next day I woke up with a giant plug of mucus ochre jelly in my esophagus.
Okay – not that this has anything to do with you guys. But am going to try and catch up with a bit of DVD viewing that I’ve not gotten around to yet (Pumpkin Scissors and Love and Honor), so expect some reviews of those in the near future…and I’m sure AnaKhouri’s got some good stuff in the wings.
…now if I can just pry myself away from World of Warcraft…
(UPDATE: Never mind – World of Warcraft is down for maintenance today. Extra sad face…)

The power’s back on at chez Musashi, but Time Warner is being a little slow in getting all our utilities back up and running – meaning no phone, cable, or internet. So again, light posting until I’m no longer living in the 19th century.

…posting (at least on my end) will be a little light for the next few days. Cincinnati got some of Ike’s leftovers, and supposedly 70% of the city will be without electricity for several days. Unfortunately, I happen to be part of that 70% – updates as I get ‘em.
(I did take some pretty cool video of the storm, though, so I may YouTube it and link it here…)
