The power’s back on at chez Musashi, but Time Warner is being a little slow in getting all our utilities back up and running - meaning no phone, cable, or internet. So again, light posting until I’m no longer living in the 19th century.

…posting (at least on my end) will be a little light for the next few days. Cincinnati got some of Ike’s leftovers, and supposedly 70% of the city will be without electricity for several days. Unfortunately, I happen to be part of that 70% - updates as I get ‘em.

With a move to a new blog-based system, we’ve decided to bring on some new blood - specifically, we are looking for dedicated folk with a passion for all things Asian Pop Culture to join the Yellow Menace Staff. Don’t get me wrong, our existing staff is all fine and dandy, but every once in a while it’s nice to shake things up a bit.

The ideal candidate will be literate (meaning you have a basic grasp of the English language), familiar with Wordpress, and willing to post at least once a day. If you live in Asia or have contacts there, all the better. We’re not real big on scoops, but if you have something to say and can do it in an entertaining manner we’ll take that over scoop-ability every day.

The ability to write reviews is a plus, but we’re looking for someone who can blog. Feature articles (interviews, etc.) are also a possibility.

…I’m taking a little bit of an extended 4th of July holiday…I’ll be back tomorrow. Hope everyone had a good weekend…I was basically a big slug for four days straight (although I watched fireworks from my front porch on the 4th, went to a carillon bell ‘concert’ at a local park with some friends, and erected an el-cheapo gazebo / tent in the backyard today so we can chill in the shade this summer.) And maybe I’ll watch Rio Bravo tonight.

Oh and here’s a YouTube video I stumbled on this weekend which I quite like, for no reason whatsoever (cover the kids’ ears…).

It’s a nice way to create an internet-wide avatar that you don’t have to change every time you go to a new site - unless they don’t use Gravatars, that is…

The site’s current design is somewhat of a work-in-progress. I didn’t intend it to be so, but - the first version of the new Wordpress site had a few flaws that didn’t manifest themselves when I was developing it on the WAMP server on my laptop. When it went live, there was some wonkiness that necessitated a fallback to an earlier theme (the one you see now).

I will likely be testing a few new themes over the next week or so, so if the site design changes radically, please don’t freak out I expect the dust to settle soon enough. Thanks for your patience.

UPDATE: Okay - that’s a little more like it. I think I’ll see how this goes…

I need to figure out why they’re mis-targeted - clearly this is not a website about building websites. Just another issue to add to my list of nagging problems with the new site. Still beats working with Xoops, though…

I know things look a little odd right now - the paint is still drying on this sucker…but welcome to the new site! Over the next couple of days I’ll be tweaking stuff out and making things look real pretty-like…but for now, please excuse all the scaffolding and plaster.

Why the change? Well, I was getting awfully tired of dealing with all the wierd, idiosyncratic CMS that is Xoops. No offense to Xoops or it’s developers, but it was really just getting in the way of doing what we like to do, namely write stuff about Asian Pop Culture.

Hence the move to WordPress, IMHO the best pure blogging tool on the planet. I’m sure there are those who aren’t too fond of WordPress, but after messing around with it for a few weeks now on my laptop, I’m happy as a clam. It’s forced me to pick up some PHP skillz, but that’s a good thing, right?

Anwyay, nuff ’said about the new diggs. I’ll be posting like crazy over the weekend, bringing back some old and recent content from the old site…
