So, if you live in Japan you can now download a free game that is like digital slots, but instead of fruit the pictures are mug shots of wanted criminals.

BBC Article

The Japanese police are a little iffy on the idea, but players seems to like it.

Mr Saito said the only criticism from users so far was that some had been “scared by the fierce look of the murder suspects”.

The only thing is, if you line up the killers you don’t win any real prizes. I think if you get three of a certain criminal you should get the option to go all vigilante on them, Punisher-style, without any threat of recrimination from the real cops. I bet those guys on the wanted list would be found like THAT.

Off-topic, but topical: Zombies!!! headed to consoles

Here at Yellow Menace we’ve been pretty vocal over the years about our shared passion for all things zombie. Indeed, whenever I get together with Mazinga at Gen Con one of the things we do is grab a table and set up a game of Zombies!!!, the fantastic tabletop zombie apocalypse game by Twilight Creations. Co-incidentally, Twilight Creations is headquartered right across the river from us in Northern Kentucky, so we also make a point of stopping by the TC booth to say howdy and nab whatever Zombies!!! expansions they put out.

Anyway. to make a long story short, I was enthused today to read that Zombies!!! is due out on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network next year. Zombies!!! is very much the horror equivalent of Go - easy to learn, hard to master…and the constant back-and-forth struggle to save yourself and simultaneously screw the other players should make for some amazing online gameplay.

Hats off to Todd and the rest of the crew at Twilight Creations  - we can’t wait to get our hands on the finished product!

Okay - I know, we didn’t do any posting this weekend. Gen Con kept us busier than usual this year, and - aw, screw it. I’ll tell you what really happened. I was up Friday and Saturday nights until 4am and on Sunday from 10am to 2 pm playing Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition with Mazinga and some friends I hadn’t seen in a while (verdict: I’m in love - you nay-sayers can keep your first/second/third/whatever editions…I’m on board with 4E). Needless to say, my body is seriously telling me to go fuck myself right now, and I’m considering an energy-drink IV drip to keep me awake today.

That said, I did manage to snag some video and pictures which I’ll post today and tomorrow, and a full convention wrap-up will follow.

Below are two videos of BioWare’s upcoming RPG Dragon Age: Origins and a few minutes of the live-action HeroClix demo from Wiz Kids’ booth on Saturday afternoon.

Monsterpocalypse playtestWow - how fun does this game look? It’s like HeroClix, but with GIANT MONSTERS. And the minis aren’t even painted yet..! I’d love to do a to-scale HeroClix Monsterpocalypse throwdown, pitting a four-foot-tall kaiju-mini at my HeroClix characters. Yep, there’s fun to be had there…

Privateer Press posted a bunch of photos from a recent playtest of Monsterpocalypse at the game’s Official Site. Man, I can’t wait to get my hands on this one.
