Good Lord, this sounds awesome. A 50-part Bruce Lee television series called The Legend of Bruce Lee featuring Chan Kwok Kuen (aka Danny Chan, the Bruce Lee lookalike from Shaolin Soccer), starts Sunday on Chinese network CCTV.
Can’t wait til it hits the BitTorrent trackers!
“We’ve only seen the glorious side of Bruce Lee - he comes out all guns blazing, his films are entertaining. But very few people know what injuries he suffered and what grievances he suffered,” Danny Chan said, noting the series even reveals that Lee was afraid of cockroaches.
The 33-year-old actor, whose best known work is Stephen Chow’s “Kung Fu Hustle” and “Shaolin Soccer,” makes up for his lack of star power with his uncanny resemblance to Lee with his thick eyebrows and slender body.
Lee’s message of Chinese strength in movies like “The Chinese Connection” and “Return of the Dragon” also matches that of the Chinese government.
“Lee had strength, agility, pride, intelligence, not to mention charisma to burn, which coupled with the pro-Chinese rhetoric in his films have made him a potent symbol for the powerful new China that is now rising,” said Michael Berry, a professor in contemporary Chinese cultural studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Aw, hellz yeah - this is the best freaking news I’ve read all week. Aint It Cool News is reporting that Stephen Chow will not only don the cheauffeur outfit previously occupied by Bruce Lee in the Green Hornet, he’s also slated to direct. Boiiiing!
I will admit to some mild disappointment that Jersey Boy Kevin Smith dropped out of the Green Hornet forever-and-a-day ago (my wife is from the Garden State and we share no small amount of affection for Mr. Smith - I suspect this is due in part to the fact that my wife says I look like a Filipino Kevin Smith - make of that what you will…).
But - all that aside, I think Chow is a perfect choice. I know there are some who will want Chow to be a little restrained in his handling of the material, but I’m hoping he brings his craziest A-game. I’m seriously jonesing for a full-on crazy-ass Shaolin Soccer Green Hornet. Probably won’t go over well in the wake of the Wachowski’s Speed Racer mess, but to hell with good taste…

My brother has been bugging me for a while to record a commentary track for the website, and last night we found ourselves hanging out with nothing better to do than drink beer and watch Enter the Dragon…and record the experience for posterity.
A word of warning - this is easily the world’s worst commentary track. There are factual errors out the wazoo, and it does nothing to honor the memory and accomplishments of the late Bruce Lee. In fact, listening to this commentary track will do nothing but ruin Enter the Dragon in your memory for all eternity, much the same as The Phantom Menace ruined the entirety of the Star Wars franchise for me.
If you want to cross that threshold, then be my guest.
