As we know already, the shamisen player is really good, but you couldn't hear it over the accordion player… who is also pretty good.

The Cut scenes in Metal Gear Solid 4 Total about eight hours and the game play totals around two hours thats what I'm getting at. I'm getting sick of the movies being longer than the actual game and this is becoming a trend as far as Japanese games for the PS3 and 360 are concerned.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to strip FFXIII of it's status as a 'game'. I just finished Heavy Rain last week, and that sort of floats in the middle ground between what we think of as 'games' and 'interactive fiction'. It was still an enthralling experience, although of a decidedly different sort. And yet it has fewer gamelike qualities than even FFXII. And what of Metal Gear Solid 4, which has cutscenes that are nearly as long as a feature film?

I agree with this. However, I'm going as far as to ask is Final Fantasy XIII even a game? I seems to me more like one of those barely interactive games on a Disney DVD. I'm not doing much playing here. I missed the part where instead of turn based RPGs now we get movies? The Japanese want good movies the need to watch some american action movies or the Lord of the Rings.

Then The Girls were younger, we stumbled upon some books illustrated by Akiko Hayashi, who evidently did the drawings for the book Kiki's Delivery Service. They were charming, so we bought several more.

Beat me to it- this is disgraceful. People should have to take tests before they can have children. You have to take a test to drive a car, after all. Why not make people meet certain standards before they can breed?

I saw a documentary on sideshow freaks once (there was a nice love story between the Alligator Man and the Ape Woman…she never shaved until after he died because he said he loved her just the way she was, aww) and they said the dissolution of sideshows was bad for them- they couldn't find work elsewhere. Honestly, I wouldn't mind being paid to watch judge shows all day. I do that anyway but I don't get paid for it. : )

I'm not so sure that's true. MIT Professor Henry Jenkins posted an essay entitled 'Reality Bytes: Eight Myths About Video Games Debunked' for PBS (which you can find here: http://www.pbs.org/kcts/videogamerevolution/impac... that cites a good number of statistics. Among them: that juvenile violent crime is at a 30-year low, that most studies linking videogame playing to violent behavior are 'inconclusive', and that the kind of behavior encouraged in a game-setting doesn't translate into what children do outside of the game.

I think it's also worth noting that incidences of rape are 20 times higher in the U.S. than Japan…despite the fact that such 'rape simulators' are freely available in Japan, and banned in the U.S.

I'd love to say I agree with you, but the evidence is clearly contrary.

Free speech? Sure, but studies have shown that violence in video games DOES encourage violence in the kids who play them. Not hard to see what this encourages. This is downright scary.

Back in 1990 I remember I had a dream that it was the future and they had video games with rape in them. I don't think it was clairvoyance. I just think this sort of thing was obviously inevitably going to be created.
