I’ve been using the name One-Inch Punch Games for my game-design efforts for some time now and maintaining a separate blog to track my progress. Unfortunately, I’m the only one who seems to visit the site (well, unless you count the host of Spambots who leave tons and tons of vaguely entertaining crap responses to my posts).

With that said, I’ve decided to start blogging those things here. With our dual focus on Asian Pop Culture and gaming – and with my intention to start blogging again on both topics – it makes sense to do so here rather than split my efforts between two sites. So I’m shutting down One-Inch Punch Games (the blog) and moving all that stuff to Yellow Menace.

So what’s going on right now? Primarily I’m working on finishing the layout for my zombie apocalypse RPG Horde of Corpses. You may have seen me mention it on Google Plus a bunch lately, and perhaps Story Games. As it stands I’m very close to finishing the first-draft layout of the old-school rules section. I’ve received a ton of awesome terribad art from the gaming community and I can’t wait for everyone to see their stuff in action, so to speak. I will be re-scanning the original pages and dropping them in, as well as re-drawing the Somerville Mall map (don’t worry – the crappy original will be in there too…).

Also, I’ve had some discussions with Tim at the Play Generated Map and Document Archive (PlaGMaDA) about donating the original manuscript once the project is done.  I love what Tim’s doing over there and the PlaGMaDA is a fitting repository for the document.

Some of you may also remember the chambara card-based RPG I’ve been toiling away on – Void and Steel. It’s still very much an active project, but between raising children, gaming, hosting two podcasts, and working a full-time job I had to concentrate my resources on one thing…and Horde of Corpses seemed the project most likely to see completion in the shortest amount of time – so I decided to focus on that. As soon as Horde of Corpses is out the door (hopefully this Fall) I’ll re-orient myself to pick up Void and Steel once again.

So what is the publishing goal of Horde of Corpses?

Ultimately I’d like to do two things – release a free .pdf version and a POD hardcopy via Lulu. I’m expecting zero financial return on this sucker, so if Lulu allows I’ll probably set the thing up at cost – no profit margin. So many people have given me their art gratis that I’d feel bad turning around and making a buck on the thing. That might make me a bad businessperson, but I feel better about it that way.

Finally – if you’re interested in playtesting Horde of Corpses (at least the modern ruleset, the Horde of Corpses Story Game if you will), here’s a link to the rules. I’m kind of in dire need of playtest feedback at this point so anything you can provide would be immensely useful.

There are a couple of other things I’ve got on the backburner, but I’d rather not say anything else at this point.

So, where has my cute ass been? I haven’t posted on YM since December 1st, 2011, according to my account. Well, I suppose I have been on hiatus. Those of you who listen to the podcast know I’ve been active on that, just not posting on the site. Maybe I just needed a little vacation from blogging for a while?

At any rate, I am back. I intend to post at least three times a week my collection of Asian news, tales of despair and woe, weird shit, and anime junk. In addition, I am looking at doing another Review Blitz (1 review a day for a whole damn month) sometime this spring/summer, probably May or June.

If you want to hook up (ew, not like that, I’m married) I’m going to be haunting the panel rooms of Millennicon 26, in Cincinnati, Ohio next weekend. It’s an awesome little SF/literary con so everyone who can get there, should. OR ELSE.

In addition I’ll be off my leash and wreaking havoc at Gencon in August along with almost every other member of the YM crew, so hopefully I’ll see you all there.

http://www.millennicon.org/     <– look it up, bitches!

Yes, I did change the template. The old one wasn’t working in some critical ways so I flushed the baby out with the bathwater and installed a new theme.

Also, since we seem to be picking up a lot of traffic from our Gamecast, I thought it would be pertinent to acknowledge it in our site’s identity – hence the new tagline. Not quite as snappy as the old one, but it works. If y’all have any better suggestions, I’m all ears.

Carry on!

So, yeah. I owe you guys four more reviews for the February Review Blitz. I will get them all to you before the end of March, I swear on my mom’s grave (or I would if she was dead; I’ll swear on her collection of back issues of Taste of Home instead).  Here’s the thing: we went on vacation to Florida for a week and the WiFi where were staying sucked ass, and of course I didn’t have as much free time to finish my reviews as I thought because Panama City is jam-packed with bars, so there’s my excuse.

To make up for it, here is an article about a hair salon that caters to cosplayers. It made me smile because for one of my own cosplays, I asked the lady who cuts my hair to help me cut the wig correctly. She was really a good sport and did a great job, so hi Laura!

Don’t worry, they let normal people get their hair cut there too.

So, I guess it’s time to announce my Big Project for February. See, dear readers, I’ve been terribly negligent about writing reviews for the site. When I think of all the Asian pop culture I’ve consumed in the past couple years that I haven’t reviewed, I want to flog myself. So, here is AnaKhouri’s Valentine’s Day gift to you all:

28 reviews in February.

One review a day.

OK, so I picked February because it’s the short month. But still…28 reviews is a LOT. I’ve been consuming amounts of Asian pop culture that will eventually kill me, or perhaps even turn me Asian. Movies, anime series, documentaries, novels, manga…you name it, I’ve been consuming it.

Musashi is even going to jump into the challenge, so you guys will see a bunch of reviews from him too.

So, yeah. Starting next Tuesday, I’m going to review the hell out of this place.

I know a lot of people who had a great 2010. I know a lot of people who had a shitty 2010. I know a lot of people whose 2010 started out pretty good, then turned shitty in the past couple months.

Damn, I know a lot of people.

Personally, 2010 was pretty uneventful for me, which is just how I like it. I’m hoping 2011 will be similarly uneventful. Keep an eye out for an ambitious project I have in the works for February 2011 (I know you guys will all be lying awake every night in January until I reveal it).

Happy New Year from the Yellow Menace Family, to all of you.

OK, I’m going to log off andgag, open a bottle of vodka, and queue up Old School Killaz on the Wii.

Yes – it looks different! I’m updating the theme, so things’ll look a little weird for a day or two. (Yes – I know we’ve got a huge thingie that says ‘AD BLOCK’ over to the right…)

Sorry for the inconvenience…

I thought traffic was bad in the place where I used to live- a small city that had outgrown its britches, and had not been designed to handle urban sprawl- resulting in tedious traffic jams (it didn’t help that the majority of the inhabitants there are retarded monkeys who would never use their damn blinkers, let you over, or NOT BLOCK THE FUCKING INTERSECTION…Christ, I haven’t lived there for 2 years and it still pisses me off).

Well, at least I’m not going anywhere in Inner Mongolia. I’d be stuck on the highway for freaking DAYS. I’d probably murder someone.

Massive Chinese Traffic Jam

At least it’s a good excuse for your boss as to why you haven’t come in to work. “Um, I was stuck in a traffic jam for nine days.” “Bullshit. FIRED!”

So, I hate to admit it but I’m two-timing Musashi and Mazinga (three-timing?). I have another blog, one about the adventures of my year-old son, Gohan. It’s on Blogspot. Sometimes when I am finished posting there, I hit the ‘Next Blog –>’ icon out of curiosity.

This is what it pulled up today:

Asian Hottest Babes

There are many pictures of lovely girls in various states of undress (but nothing nude, I checked it out- all for you YM readers, I do it ALL FOR YOU).

You’re welcome.

A little less than two weeks ago we launched the new Yellow Menace Podcast. Episode 2 is in the can and will go online June 21st, as scheduled. For those interested in what things look like in the short run, here’s a quick rundown:

  • Episode 2 (6/21): Interview with Zebediah DeSoto, writer and director of the upcoming computer animated Night of the Living Dead: Origins
  • Episode 3 (7/5): Mortal Kombat, Dragon Age anime, Sushi Poppers, Scanlation crackdown. Film Discussion: Johnnie To’s Exiled.
  • Episode 4 (7/19): Some news (haven’t recorded yet, but we’ll know soon). Film Discussion: American Ninja.

As you can see we’re rolling along quite well. If anyone has any feedback to share about the podcast, feel free to send it to musashi (at) yellow-menace.com, or post it in the comments section. I should also note that we are now available on iTunes…click on the graphic in the right margin of the site to access the feed (and feedback is always welcome on our iTunes page as well).

Dio died. Yeah, it’s #3 in the recent series of famous people deaths: Frank Frazetta, Lena Horne, Dio. If you don’t know who Dio was, you suck. He was the second singer in Black Sabbath after Ozzy bailed (and guess what- he was better than Ozzy. Yeah, I said it) and the frontman for Rainbow.  And also Elf, but Rainbow was better.  And he was the dude Jack Black prayed to in Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny. He was old as fuck but could still rock, at least he could a couple years ago when I saw ads for Heaven and Hell concerts.

Rock on in Heaven, Dio.

For some reason, when you type in ‘happy new year’ in Google and hit the image search button, you get this picture of some ladies in thongs, showing off their backsides that appear to have red hand prints on them. I wasn’t curious enough to click on the picture and see what the hand prints actually are, though.

Anyway, here are my New Year’s resolutions:

1. Stop watching judge shows when the baby is napping. I have better things to do than watch these mutants scream at each other while the judge is secretly counting her six-figure salary behind the podium. My last judge show ever is today at 1:30, Judge Alex.

2. Work some of this baby fat off my ass. Wait, that’s my resolution every year, you say? Well, this year it’s different. Before it was just Edy’s Girl Scout Cookie ice cream fat, this year it’s baby fat. And ice cream fat.

3. Post two reviews on Yellow Menace every month. I can do this, I know it. The first will be Baccano!, because I already have it written up and have just been too lazy to type it.

4. Use that bulb thing instead of my fingers to get snot out of Gohan’s nose. The bulb thing is such a pain in the ass to use though…

I hope everyone had a decent 2009 and a great 2010! See you next year!

Okay – many, many apologies – I wasn’t planning on a mini-sabbatical, but my workload decreed otherwise. Now that the Xmas is nearly upon us my desk is cleared and I can finally get back to actual work…

Oh and many thanks (and profuse apologies) to AnaKhouri, who has been busting her behind while I’ve been away…

So, I suck. I couldn’t meet my own deadline on the 13 Asian horror movies. In my defense, Halloween weekend was much busier than I expected, due to some unanticipated visitors. Also, ever since Gohan was born I have had an incredible craving for candy. I did OK by simply not buying any (if it’s not in the house, you can’t eat it!) but needless to say (but I’ll say it anyway)  I spent most of Sunday evening and this morning in a Candy Coma.

I have one more review to post, and then I’ll call it quits. 10 movies is pretty respectable, I think.

Anyway, sorry everyone, and I’ll try harder next year!
