Pandora is Far, But China is…Also Pretty Far

I would really like to visit Zhangjiajie, Hunan province, in China. That is the place with all the crazy towers of rock and lots of fog and foliage.

But I don’t want to take the Avatar tour.

You Sold Out Your Mountain?

Zhangjiajie is trying to capitalize on the movie’s popularity in several ways.

The municipal government website has also adopted the slogan “Pandora is far but Zhangjiajie is near”, while tourists are being offered tours of the locations which allegedly inspired the film, Reuters reports.

I don’t think Zhangjiajie is actually that near. Also, Pandora is fake.

(for the record, I really don’t have any interest in seeing Avatar. All the animation in the world can’t make up for what sounds like a trite, boring story).

Beautiful mountains. Haven´t seen them myself for real, but on the picture they look quite similar to those in WuYiShan.
