More Descendants of Darkness…Like I Care

So after about a million years, Yoko Matsushita has finally released another volume of Yami no Matsuei/Descendants of Darkness.

About Damn Time

Although at this point I really no longer care. The eleventh volume was released by Viz back in 2006. I vaguely remember that the characters were off in the spirit world catching shikigami or something, and there was a talking cactus in a cowboy hat. And oh yeah, everybody was gay but they wouldn’t have sex cause that was too intimidating for the teenage girl demographic or something.

I actually watched the anime first with my roommate. It was so silly I started reading the manga to see if it was originally that silly or if the anime people screwed it up, and somehow I got stuck reading it. There was this bad guy in the manga who would have been badass if Matsushita hadn’t tried to make him so sexy and all; he came off as foppish. In the anime though he was even more stupid; at the beginning of the anime he wants to steal the hero’s power. Fair enough. But by the middle of the anime he wants to get in the hero’s pants. Um, OK. By the end of the anime, he wants to kidnap the hero so he can take the soul of his brother (whom he murdered) and put it in the hero’s body so he can kill his brother again. WTF?

And it was only 13 episodes.

I’m probably not going to read the new volume of Descendants of Darkness, so I’m not even sure why I’m writing about it.
