New to Netflix Instant Watch: Tetsuo: The Iron Man, Triad Election, Samaritan Girl
I was just bemoaning the fact that Netflix hadn’t updated their stable of Instant Watch films in a few days when a flood of stuff hit today, including a whole ton of awesome Asian flicks:
Tetsuo: The Iron Man
Triad Election
Phone
Samaritan Girl
Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles
Cinderella
And this year’s Halloween Costume Challenge is…
I’m prepping for my second year of serious home-made Halloween costume fabrication; last year mini-Musashi was decked out as Peter Venkman from Ghostbusters. This year he’s opted for something a little more kaiju-riffic – Jet Jaguar, the robotic superhero last seen in 1973’s Godzilla vs. Megalon.
I’m actually pretty pumped to knock this sucker out…last year [...]
Fake Smiles for Thai Cops
Thailand’s had a rough year- governments settling in only to be booted out, angry mobs (wielding torches and farm implements?…one can hope) and tons of unrest. So some of the residents of ‘The Land of Smiles’ have forgotten how to smile. Especially cops, who probably have a really stressful job even in peaceful years.
But there [...]
Project 13
I’ve been having trouble focusing lately. I can’t seem to concentrate on my fiction or on my writing for this site – probably a consequence of little sleep and countless hours spent watching judge shows on FOX (although recently I’ve become better at holding a book while breastfeeding, so maybe I can cut down on [...]
Metal Gear Solid Fan Film – MGS: Philanthropy
You know, this is actually not total shit. Seriously. Okay – it’s kinda shit. But, it’s pretty polished shit. It even leans towards watchable at times.

Join the Polygamy Club and Get Another Wife FREE! Act Now!
Those crazy cats in Malaysia: they can’t abide having Beyonce shake her ass onstage there, but polygamy is legal, and the Polygamy Club wants to make it widespread.
I Do, and I Do, and I Do…
I actually have nothing against polygamy. As long as everyone involved is an adult and they all consented, why the hell [...]
Late night YouTube find – Acid Android rockin’ it with Curve’s Toni Halliday
Here’s a nice 2 am YouTube discovery – Acid Android (aka Yukihiro, the drummer from L’Arc-en-Ciel) with guest vocalist Toni Halliday (Curve). L’Arc-en-Ciel is J-pop at its’ best, and Curve is one of my all-time favorite bands – so I was stoked to come across this.
For the curious, here’s Curve in their prime – ‘Missing [...]
Plug It In, and by ‘It’ I Mean Your Brain
io9 has a cool article up that lists the top ten best robots to jack your brain into – meaning you can control them remotely using your brain waves. Several anime made the cut, including Battle Angel Alita (”soon to be a movie from James Cameron”, they note…except it’s been in production Hell almost as [...]
Huge-Ass Baby
Holy crap! Some poor woman in Indonesia just gave birth to a 19 pound baby. They had to cut the kid out, of course.
Good Lord
He looks like a miniature sumo wrestler.
Space Battleship Yamato theme played on piano by two cute Japanese girls
See, this is what happens when you start poking around YouTube.
Shamisen orchestra plays Space Battleship Yamato theme
Found this while I was writing another article, but it was too cool not to post. It’s the theme to the classic anime Space Battleship Yamato (aka Star Blazers) being performed by a classical shamisen orchestra. Awesome in the extreme.
So – how’d Sarah Palin’s Hong Kong investors talk go?
Nobody knows! Well, nobody who wasn’t there – since the press wasn’t allowed in.
CLSA requested Palin’s speech be closed to reporters so she could make an “unfettered” presentation to investors, according to spokeswoman Simone Wheeler. And Palin, whose supporters have long accused the media of bias and harsh treatment, agreed.
Hari Sevugan, a spokesman for the [...]
Cowboy Bebop Too Awesome for Hollywood
According to Keanu Reeves, the live-action Cowboy Bebop movie is still on. It’s just being completely rewritten, because apparently the first draft of the script was just too awesome.
Interview with Spike
Reeves says all the main characters are in this film. But what I want to know is, will the Shaft brother be in it, in [...]
Punk-rock naturalist Chris Packham says ‘Let the pandas die out’.
Love him or hate him, zoologist Chris Packham says what’s on his mind. Some time back he made the comment that he’d be willing to eat the last Giant Panda if it meant the money spent on their survival could be used on other, more viable species.
Looks like he’s banging that gong again…
Conservationists should “pull [...]
Priest Cast List Includes Captain von Trapp
The live-action adaptation of the manwha Priest is getting a star-packed cast, sort of. There’s Paul Bettany, who I only saw in one other movie but he was pretty good, and Brad Dourif, who is very sleazy-looking, and Christopher Plummer. I love Christopher Plummer. He is the only reason to watch The Sound of Music [...]
