This reminds me of the last… the ONLY Korean film I saw. Of course, I was in the theater, and there were no subtitles, and my grasp of Korean is limited to ten phrases. BUT that being said, it seems to follow the same pattern: lack of comprehensible plot, nonsensicle scenes, and most importantly… NOTHING HAPPENING!

(Ahem.) Sorry, my last intro to Korean cinema was "Nowhere to Hide" (or was it Nowhere to Run), where a police gang (?) attacks other gangs and dresses like gangsta-wannabes, there's a love interest who may or may not be the girlfriend of the bad gang leader, and the hero gets his butt kicked HARD in the end… but it's okay, because all the hero wanted to do was delay him until the REAL cops arrived. (Oh, my head… stop the pain!)

I think this clip is a little hard to digest out of context, frankly. Plus – Asian films tend to lean towards weird. But – Park Chan-wook is freaking brilliant (check out Oldboy if you haven't already done so), and I have every bit of faith that Thirst will be pretty amazing.

Joint Security Area is damn good too, and a lot more straightforward.

Okay, now that you mention it, Deep Water (at least, I think that was the name of the Japanese flick) was pretty weird… but nice build up, good horror. Maybe I'll give it a shot.

I still regret I wasted a couple thousand won to see that other flick, though. What a waste of a weekend afternoon! What was sadder was that Fight Club was on the week before… and I didn't see it until I came back to the States.

I think you're thinking of Dark Water – yeah that was a good one. The original Japanese Ring flicks were decent too, although I know a few people who preferred the American versions (heresy!)

Fight Club – good times, good times…
