‘Major’ D&D campaign setting announcement scheduled for Gen Con
Since Mazinga posted his Gen Con preview today, here’s a little con news from me…
Listening to episode 106 of the Tome Show (4E One Year Later) yesterday, I was pleased to hear WOTC folk mention that a significant campaign-setting related announcement will be made at Gen Con in August. I was particularly heartened to hear them bring up Planescape as one of the possible candidates (it was mentioned that the DMG 2, due later this year, would contain Planescape info as well). Is 4E Planescape going to happen?
I hope so. For my money, Planescape was the best 3E campaign release, and one of the best in D&D’s history. Of course, given the dimension-hopping nature of the PS universe, it also makes it possible to drag your PC’s from The Forgotten Realms to Eberron and back with little effort. In fact my money’s on Planescape…Greyhawk bears too much similarity to the Forgotten Realms and Kara-Tur/Oriental Adventures is technically part of the FR (and receives mention in the FR Campaign Guide). Ditto Maztica, which was actually obliterated by the Spellplague. So what does that leave? If it does happen, we won’t likely see it until 2010 as WOTC seems to be sticking to their ‘one campaign per year’ plan, and Eberron is just hitting shelves this week.
Then again, they could always bring back Spelljammer…
Naturally, we’ll be at Gen Con, so as soon as we hear anything we’ll post it here!
