You’re a Kamen Rider Now, Gai-jin!

“Kamen Rider, Dragon Knight! Together we can fight the fight! So let’s ride!”

In the grand tradition of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, our friends at the CW have created an American version of the popular, much resurrected Japanese live-action show Kamen Rider.  Like MMPR, Kamen Rider uses new footage of American actors spliced in with stunts from the Japanese show. Which is totally funny when the weather in the American footage is different from the Japanese footage. “Wait…it’s cloudy, but only in the area where those guys are fighting, and not where the spectators are standing commenting on the fight?”

Hell, I’d let my kid watch it. After all, it’s more sanitized and dumbed-down than the Japanese version!

“The original Japanese story is really different. It’s way darker than we’d be allowed to do in America,” explains Mike Wang. “It’s very bloody. People get kidnapped. [And] it’s way complicated. When i was watching the subtitled version, I didn’t understand what was happening sometimes.”
