Kaoru Kurimoto Dead at 56

Kaoru Kurimoto, a popular Japanese author, has passed away at the age of 56.

ANN Article

In a career that spanned just over 30 years, Kurimoto wrote 400 books, including the 126-volume fantasy series The Guin Saga.

I read the first couple books and, quite frankly, thought they were lame. Only the sweet illustrations Yoshitaka Amano did for a couple of the volumes (like the one to the right) are worth seeing. An anime version of The Guin Saga is currently running in Japan.

Kurimoto was the youngest-ever winner of the Edogawa Rampo literary prize, which is quite a feat. But I argue that no one can write 400 freaking books in 30 years and still keep up the quality. Still, it’s sad because she was rather young (my mom is 56!) and had many fans.
