This is a sick, sick man.
You’ve probably noticed I’ve been following the live-action movie of Osamu Tezuka’s MW with much enthusiasm. The actual movie doesn’t come out in Japan until July, so I’ll have to wait a while >sob< but at least we finally have a full trailer!
It’s about a guy who, as a child, was exposed to a chemical weapon called MW; he survived, but his brain was damaged so he now has no conscience.
Example: in the first chapter of the manga, he kidnaps a kid, kills said kid, takes the ransom money and kills the kid’s dad, then has sex with a priest. He murders and rapes his way through the manga. He searches for the secret to MW, not to destroy it or to expose the truth about what happened to him, but so he can use it.
This is going to be awesome.
You know, this reminds me of a catalog I saw once. One of the listings was for the Japanese TV series, Rapeman, which apparently went on for two seasons. The plot synopsis is of our superhero who rapes girls because “they deserve it.”
I’m sure this concept works in anime, but live-action… er…
Rapeman? Sadly, I am not surprised.
I didn’t mean to imply Tezuka condoned the character’s behavior; the main plot revolves around Father Garai, the conflicted lover/confidant of the killer who has to deal with guilt, lust and repulsion all at once. There’s also intrigue involving how Nation X (obviously the US) used a Japanese island to dump dangerous chemical weapons and how the Japanese government covered it up.
I can’t resist… “Oh, no! He’s been using Nation X! But with Joker Nation, I get a grin, again… and again!”
So dumping chemical weapons on a Japanese island – is the origin story of far-off Monster Island, home to Godzilla, Mothra, and anything else we can stick out there?
