Yes, you read that right.
A 77-year-old Indianapolis woman was slain early Thursday morning trying to stop her grandson, Christopher Rondeau, and another man from killing each other in a sword duel.
The police report was unclear whether Franziska Stegbauer was stabbed or died of a heart attack in the incident. One of the swords being wielded was described as a ‘World War II Japanese officer’s sword’.
Wow, those things hold up pretty well.
Preliminary reports from police said that Franziska Stegbauer, 77, Indianapolis, tried to break up the fight and was fatally stabbed. Police found all three victims inside the residence on Raceway Road when they arrived early this morning.
It has not yet been determined if Stegbauer died from a stab wound or from a possible heart attack, police said. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

These type of stories can be explained in one sentence: “Authorities believe that drinking may have been involved.”
When I got my stage-fighting broadsword (by spending all my high school graduation money), a friend of mine wanted to sword fight. He bought a $5 aluminum sword and we went out to Eagle Point Park to fight, since it had a castle… okay, a tower. Carbon steel versus aluminum? The cheap sword was bashed beyond all recognition… although I still have dings in my broadsword from that fight, and a small scar on my hand. Strangely enough, drinking was NOT involved.
Sounds like these idiots would have used rocks if no Katana was there.
