So the husband and I just watched the first 6 episodes of this anime in one sitting (they’re only 15 minutes long, but that’s still rare for us) and were laughing our heads off the entire time.  The show is SO FRAKKING FUNNY, I’m debating whether I like it more then Metalocalypse (Blasphemy! Sorry, Skwisgard).

It’s about a kid who wants to be a lame pop singer, but somehow ends up fronting a black metal band called Detroit Metal City. All their songs are about rape and killing people (I think they are heavily based on Dimmu Borgir), and even though the kid is horrified by what he’s doing, he’s too scared of their insane manager to protest (also, I think secretly he likes it). One of the characters is a masochist they hire to go on stage in gimp gear so Krauser (the lead singer) can abuse him in front of their fans.

It’s totally, totally hysterical and wrong and we love it more than anything in the world. I’m not sure if non-metal fans would like it as much, since a lot of the show parodies metal bands, but I’m not a huge black metal fan and I still know enough of the usual black metal stereotypes to get the jokes.

It’s not licensed yet, but I’m hoping it will be soon. There is also a manga and a live-action film, neither of which is available in the States (sniff). You can find fansubs online if you know where to look. Go watch this show. NOW, YOU PIGS!
