Neil Gaiman Defends Dirty Manga

I don’t approve of child pornography.

I wouldn’t read manga with shota or lolicon themes, or look at that sort of art.

But if YOU want to read that stuff, that’s fine. Not the child pornography, the manga. As long as they’re drawings and not real kids being hurt.

But the U.S. government is full of morons who can’t tell the fucking difference. So Brit Neil Gaiman is trying to set us straight.

Gaiman on Obscene Manga

Long story short: guy has graphic manga with what appear to be underage participants (though with manga, most characters looks pretty young, so who knows?). Guy is arrested and goes on trial in December against obscenity charges. Comic Book Legal Defense Fund comes to the rescue. Neil Gaiman tells MTV that is that guy is getting arrested, he should be arrested too because of a Sandman story arc that involved a child murderer.

Hell, they should arrest me too. Because I have some volumes of the Berserk manga so that obviously means I want to rape and kill and torture people just like the characters in that manga.

Remember Minority Report? About how people were arrested just for thinking of committing a crime, before they had a chance to do it? And how Philip K. Dick obviously that was really stupid?

You can’t prosecute people based on their thoughts. If that were okay, than I would be in jail a hundred times over for assault and murder. But that’s exactly what the government wants to do.

Good for you, Neil Gaiman, for speaking up! And everyone donate to the CBLDF any chance you get. I am a firm believer in the First Amendment, no matter what it is you have to say. I think it’s the most important right we have in this country, and I’ll fight for it.

I’ll be following this story so I’ll post the trial results ASAP.
