In Search of…Genghis Khan’s Grave

Researchers are getting ready to go out and scour Mongolia, looking for the tomb of Genghis Khan.

I don’t think it’s going to be as easy as they expect, though:

According to legend, Genghis Khan lies buried somewhere beneath the dusty steppe of Northeastern Mongolia, entombed in a spot so secretive that anyone who made the mistake of encountering his funeral procession was executed on the spot. Once he was below ground, his men brought in horses to trample evidence of his grave, and just to be absolutely sure he would never be found, they diverted a river to flow over their leader’s final resting place.

What, you’re going to move a river to get to the guy? Good luck you fancy-pants archeologists! You’d be better off just building a wall and waiting for him to come to you.

This is supremely cool though, and even though I kind of feel that digging up dead people is somewhat disrespectful, I love archeology and I love tombs and the stuff that is in tombs. I guess this non-invasive stuff is the best they can do for now, anyway.
