Benny Chan to reverse-engineer US thriller ‘Cellular’
Usually the Asian-Hollywood connection runs East-to-West, but Hong Kong director Benny Chan is going against the flow with a planned remake of the 2004 Kim Basinger film Cellular. Chan has already assembled a Chinese cast that includes Louis Koo and Barbie Hsu.

“In my movie, I added many elements that Hong Kong action movies do best — human combat, action, flying cars,” Chan told The Associated Press in an interview Tuesday.
The director said he doesn’t mind making a remake.
“What the world lacks most is good stories. If there’s a story that investors think will work in the market and that I like, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with remaking it,” Chan said.
