Musashi rockin’ the Harlock shirt with ‘Dawn of the Dead’ actor Ken Foree

Here’s a photo of myself with Dawn of the Dead and Devils’ Rejects actor Ken Foree, taken shortly after we inverviewed him for the website at Gen Con Indy a few years back. I think co-editor Mazinga has a similar photo of himself. Click on picture to enlarge.

Off-topic post of the day: David Blaine Street Magic YouTube Edition

I don’t know what’s funnier, the spot-on stupid incredulity of his ‘marks’ or the way he ‘mysteriously’ gazes into the camera with each trick. Note: don’t let the kids listen unless you wanna hear a lot of questions about the ‘F-Bomb’.

‘Kung Fu Panda’ could not have come from China

I haven’t seen Kung Fu Panda myself (apologies to Mini-Musashi - I’ll get you covered when the DVD comes out), but this piece at the Los Angeles Times (China had to import ‘Kung Fu Panda’) is a pretty interesting look at the cultural differences between the film’s American roots and its’ Chinese inspiration. A lot [...]

New ADV titles available via VOD

ADV just announced a bunch of shows available via Anime Network’s Video On Demand service. There’s some good stuff in here, including Boogiepop Phantom and the U.S. debut of the Gravitation OVA. ‘Read more…’ for the press release.

Mmmm…eel drink.

Okay, just for the record, I actually like eel. A little rubbery, but other than that it pretty much tastes like fish (which is what it is, when you get right down to it). But I don’t know if I’d be cracking open a case of Surging Eel anytime soon. Some things were clearly not [...]

Olivia Munn and a whole lotta’ Leia

No - I’m not in San Diego basking in all the geeky glory that is the San Diego Comicon. Nope, just sitting around my pad playin’ Battlefield: Bad Company and counting the days (18 to go!) until the other geek-fest, Gen Con Indy. So naturally, at 4am there isn’t much to do other than vicariously [...]

I’m-too-lazy-to-blog News Roundup

I don’t feel like doing a crapload of posting right now, so I’m gonna crap out on y’all and post all my backlog at once. I’ll probably be feeling a little more blog-gy later this afternoon…

Short Review: Kaoru Mori’s ‘Shirley’

Rating:
Kaoru Mori has a thing for maids. Not like that, you pervs- she likes drawing them and writing about them. Mori’s maids aren’t the naughty kind either; they are English, Victorian, and very proper. Clad in ankle-length black dresses and fluffy white aprons, these ladies are smart, competent, and very real.
Mori’s first [...]

Pyramids in China?

I knew the tomb of China’s ‘first emperor’ (the guy with all the terracotta soldiers) was supposed to be pretty magnificent, as well as pretty unexcavated- to the frustration of armchair archaeologists like myself- but I never knew China had multiple pyramids.

Unfortunately information in English seems rather scarce. I bet the Chinese government is keeping [...]

Suicide rate on the rise in South Korea

If you’d asked me five minutes ago which Asian country has the highest suicide rate per 10,000 people - between Japan and South Korea, I’d have said Japan…and as usual, I’d have been wrong. Nope, the winner of the Suicide Rate Sweepstakes does in fact go to South Korea. I am called to wonder what [...]
