Japan wants robot sex NOW
I think most of us can wait another 20-30 years for our robot sex. After all, by then the robots will actually look and feel like real people…and then you won’t feel like you’re sleeping with a toaster, or in the case of Sega’s new E.M.A., a de-furred Furby. But not the Japanese! No, they [...]
‘Manga Bibles’ neither Biblical nor - er - Manga-al
Remember those Bible-inspired manga that released in triplicate earlier this year? Tom Baker (the journalist, not the Time Lord) of the Yomiuri Shimbun dissects the books. His finding? They neither work particularly well as manga, or as bibles. Surprise!
As for artwork in the books, Shamoon pointed out that Lee’s “Manga Bible,” coming from South Korea, [...]
Copycat stabbing - er, cutting - in Akihabara
Well, it looks like one nutbag made it through the dragnet Japanese police made this week which nabbed 12 would-be knife-wielding maniacs. Kotaku is reporting that a policeman in Akihabara was attacked and injured while checking bags in the district. The officer only received minor wounds to the hand.
Not sure if this is [...]
Yellow Menace on the Con circuit
While I’m on the subject of GenCon, I should mention that Mazinga and I will once again be covering GenCon, which takes place August 14-17th in Indianapolis, Indiana. Although GenCon is ostensibly a gaming convention, the last three years have been decidedly Anime-riffic, with Funimation and the folk behind Robotech making big appearances. I expect [...]
Interview with ‘Dawn of the Dead’ actor Ken Foree from GenCon 2004
Here’s a little treat - back in 2004, Mazinga and I interviewed actor Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead, The X-Files, The Devil’s Rejects) at GenCon 2004 in Indianapolis. It’s truly one of the best things that’s ever come from running the site - Mr. Foree was a gracious and charming interviewee, and I was [...]
“So he’s like the Magneto of Mud…”
Okay, this is the second time I’ve pimped ABC Family’s ‘The Middleman‘, but this week’s episode was particularly Yellow Menace-y.
‘Dub Dub’ (aka Wendy Watson) and the Middleman have to track down a Chinese terracotta warrior run amok. Not as many laughs as last week, but the second half of the show is spot-on. Lots of [...]
‘Ninja’ sighting spurs NJ school lockdown
I saw a lot of wierd stuff while I lived in New Jersey, but Ninja weren’t among them. Maybe I lived too far from Asbury Park.
Public schools in Barnegat were locked down briefly after someone reported seeing a ninja running through the woods behind an elementary school.
Turns out the ninja was actually a camp counselor [...]
Godzilla ga ginza hoomen e mukatte imasu!
Normally these home-made music videos don’t do much for me, but I thought this was particularly well done.

New Japanese porn trend: Old-people
Honestly, old people doing the horizontal bop isn’t all that odd. To be perfectly frank, I hope I’m spry enough to enjoy my golden years to the fullest…and compared to some of the wierd Japanese pr0n I’ve been subjected to in the past (’poop tempura’ should be first and last word on that account), old-people [...]
WaiWai Me?
I’m a fan of Mainichi Shimbun, the English-language version of Tokyo’s most popular daily newspaper, which can be found online. I was full of sorrow today when I clicked on the link only to discover that the infamous WaiWai section has been discontinued!
Link
WaiWai was a weekly roundup of stories from Japan’s weekly magazines (similar, I [...]
