Asian Images in Film coming to TCM in June
Wow, ask and ye shall receive! Just as I was kvetching about Hollywood’s portrayal of Asians, Turner Classic Movies is preparing a month-long look at Asians on the silver screen. Running Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the month of June, Asian Images in Film looks to be a well-presented affair. The selection of films is astounding: everything from The Dragon Painter to Enter the Dragon is slated to appear. I’m particularly curious about Dragon Seed (I’m sensing a running theme here…), a 1944 film about the Japanese occupation of China starring Katherine Hepburn as a Chinese Villager. It sounds awful on paper, but I hear it’s actually quite good.
And hey, since TCM broadcasts commercial free, this is a perfect opportunity to check out our recently-recorded DVD Commentary Track for Enter the Dragon!
Asian Images in Film begins Tuesday, June 3rd on Turner Classic Movies.
