…as I note that we are the top rated site result on Google for Michelle Malkin is a fucking idiot. (pat self on back)
I am totally stoked about Right Stuf/Nozomi Entertainment’s release of Emma: A Victorian Romance on June 24th (shut up- I’m a girl, okay?). To get everyone else excited about it, here is the first trailer Right Stuf has released for season one (oddly enough, it is the series opening!). Edit: OK, I’m an idiot and can’t figure out how to [...]
I won’t be anywhere near the 2008 BookExpo America show in L.A. this weekend, but the last couple of press releases from VIZ makes me wish I were…there are a metric ton of releases between these two sheets, so rather than post them in their entirety, I’ll just stick to the skinny:
Lately there’s been a lot of coverage of suicides in Japan; from suicide pacts to tons of people getting sick from detergent-suicides. Well, here is some happy news: Paul Touten wants to save Japan’s victims of depression, and he will dress up like a cartoon cowboy and sing songs to do it! Go Paul! http://mdn.mainichi.jp/culture/waiwai/news/20080528p2g00m0dm003000c.html
I just noticed that a ‘McCain For President’ banner was running at the top of the site, and wanted y’all to know that we (and by ‘we’, I mean ‘Yellow Menace’) don’t officially support anyone in the upcoming election. We use Google AdSense throughout the site, and have no control over what ads are served on the pages. So – [...]
Remember a while back I solicited suggestions on whether or not to spring for a DS? Well – I opted for a PSP instead. Yes – I had one a while back, but sacrificed it at the Gamestop altar for my Xbox 360. Given the PSP’s multimedia capabilites (and the ability to hook up to a PS3 if and when [...]
Japan Zone reports that Japanese vocalist Nakamura Ataru has recorded the theme song for the Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro anime, due out from Toei later this year. The track, entitled ‘Kaze Tachinu’ will be released as a single in advance of the film’s release.
Tartan USA, the North American branch of UK distributor Tartan Films, has ceased operations according to IGN. I’m fairly disappointed by this – Tartan USA’s Asia Extreme label was responsible for some really remarkable Stateside DVD releases, including Chan-wook Park’s Oldboy and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Shinya Tsukamoto’s A Snake of June, A Tale of Two Sisters, Natural City, and [...]
Tomorrow…
Hrm – I’m not sure about this one. Shaolin Soccer is one of those movies that really doesn’t need a sequel. But, if you’re aching for more martial arts / sports action than the first flick could provide – well, here you go. Stephen Chow didn’t direct Shaolin Girl (supposedly he was brought in as a ‘consultant’), but the action [...]
Seriously, Michelle – is there nothing better for you to spend your energies on? Modern Conservatism is in enough of a jam these days without simpletons like you kvetching about Rachel Ray’s attire in a fucking iced coffee commercial. I’m even less impressed with Dunkin’ Donuts for caving in to such inane invective. Jeezus – where is a giant space [...]
It’s late, but still worth a view – Faye Wong performed onstage for the first time in three years on last week’s televised earthquake relief fundraiser.
This is one of those moments that I regret not spending time in the land of my forebears, the Philippines. I hear tell that Dante David (aka Howlin’ Dave), a legendary punk rock/new wave DJ from Pasay City, died yesterday at the age of 52. I never heard him, but if half the stuff in his Wikipedia entry is true, [...]
Wow – I’m amazed by the continuing popularity of Pokémon. Between that and the Power Rangers, it seems 90′s pop culture will never die. Though I was never really interested in Pokémon, I can certainly understand the impulse. And it has to be said that the Gameboy titles were actually pretty great. Anyway, VIZ sent us the following press release [...]
[rating:3] There’s a certain irony to Vexille that sets in quickly after the opening credits. The film’s central theme is the subjugation of humanity by an increasing reliance on technology. And yet, the film is itself an example of the very sin the screenwriters seek to purge. Following closely on the massive success of the CGI film Appleseed, director Fumihiko [...]
