I am totally stoked about Right Stuf/Nozomi Entertainment’s release of Emma: A Victorian Romance on June 24th (shut up- I’m a girl, okay?). To get everyone else excited about it, here is the first trailer Right Stuf has released for season one (oddly enough, it is the series opening!).
Edit: OK, I’m an idiot and can’t figure out how to get a video up here…so here’s the website!
I won’t be anywhere near the 2008 BookExpo America show in L.A. this weekend, but the last couple of press releases from VIZ makes me wish I were…there are a metric ton of releases between these two sheets, so rather than post them in their entirety, I’ll just stick to the skinny:
Lately there’s been a lot of coverage of suicides in Japan; from suicide pacts to tons of people getting sick from detergent-suicides. Well, here is some happy news: Paul Touten wants to save Japan’s victims of depression, and he will dress up like a cartoon cowboy and sing songs to do it! Go Paul!

I just noticed that a ‘McCain For President’ banner was running at the top of the site, and wanted y’all to know that we (and by ‘we’, I mean ‘Yellow Menace’) don’t officially support anyone in the upcoming election. We use Google AdSense throughout the site, and have no control over what ads are served on the pages. So - if you see political ads, we are collectively apolitical and did not take money from any party to display them.

Remember a while back I solicited suggestions on whether or not to spring for a DS? Well - I opted for a PSP instead. Yes - I had one a while back, but sacrificed it at the Gamestop altar for my Xbox 360. Given the PSP’s multimedia capabilites (and the ability to hook up to a PS3 if and when I get one), well - that did it for me. And boy, am I glad I crawled back to Sony - as I just found out I can use my new handheld gaming console to grab upskirt shots of unknowing females! Bonus!
A deputy head of a Nagoya technical college has been arrested for supposedly using a PSP and PSP camera peripheral to look up the skirt of a 19 year-old female. On the 27th, the 59 year-old college administrator was apparently caught using the PSP Chotto Shot peripheral on the Nagoya Kintetsu train line.

Japan Zone reports that Japanese vocalist Nakamura Ataru has recorded the theme song for the Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro anime, due out from Toei later this year. The track, entitled ‘Kaze Tachinu’ will be released as a single in advance of the film’s release.
Tartan USA, the North American branch of UK distributor Tartan Films, has ceased operations according to IGN. I’m fairly disappointed by this - Tartan USA’s Asia Extreme label was responsible for some really remarkable Stateside DVD releases, including Chan-wook Park’s Oldboy and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Shinya Tsukamoto’s A Snake of June, A Tale of Two Sisters, Natural City, and a whole slew of other great flicks.
One assumes that most of these films will find new distribution, but it sure sucks to see a good company go the way of the dodo. If you’re looking for any of the films they had rights to, you might want to grab them while you can. At the very least, you’ll want to nab the excellent 3-disc Oldboy tin…it’s worth every penny.
Thanks for the good times, Tartan! You’ll be missed (sniffle)…

Hrm - I’m not sure about this one. Shaolin Soccer is one of those movies that really doesn’t need a sequel. But, if you’re aching for more martial arts / sports action than the first flick could provide - well, here you go. Stephen Chow didn’t direct Shaolin Girl (supposedly he was brought in as a ‘consultant’), but the action looks much the same as Shaolin Soccer - for better or worse.
